At our Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated nursery at Burton Joyce, we offer fantastic facilities including a stimulating and inviting playroom designed to provide access to all areas of the EYFS framework to encourage and support children to achieve their fullest potential, actively promoting the development of positive self-image. We have a separate quiet reading room with sleep area and a range of real-life role-play areas. Outside we have access to a large playing field and trim trail-climbing equipment. Our nursery garden boasts a real-life boat, builders yard and small allotment complete with mud kitchen.
Forest School sessions are delivered by our nursery manager who is a Level 3 Advanced Forest School Leader. These are run every Tuesday and Friday in nursery and every Wednesday in After School Club. Forest School has been proven to increase self-esteem and self-confidence, increase resilience, improve overall health, lay the foundation for healthy brain development and maximise learning when taken back into the classroom. To achieve this, we engage children in hiding and exploring games, scavenger hunts, learning about animals, learning how to care for the environment, wood crafting and using tools.
All our staff are Level 3 qualified Early Years Practitioners of the highest caliber, delivering outstanding teaching and learning opportunities to children from aged 2 in our nursery up to age 12 in our After School and Breakfast Club. Staff members regularly update their safeguarding knowledge by completing training every year.
At Burton Joyce, we believe in giving children ‘real-life’ experiences. In our home corner, we have real fruit and vegetables and other cupboard essentials, along with everything a well-equipped kitchen should have. In our indoor workshop, we use real tools to create some wonderful cars, rockets or wherever our imagination takes us. We also have a salon where children can pretend to be a hairdresser for the day. This comes complete with Hollywood mirror and styling accessories. Our enabling environment develops the skills children need to be competent and resilient learners that will lay the foundations for success throughout their school life.
